iPhone IconsThe iPhone is possibly the most useful electronic device I own. It goes everywhere I do, and contains a lot of what I need to conduct my daily business, and indeed my life!

Those of us with an iPhone also know how useful the icons are. With just one touch one can access the weather, Facebook, email, the Internet, your photos or any of the other tens of thousands applications which are currently available.

Did you know that it is possible to create an iPhone icon for any website? The icon may be used, like any other, for one touch access to your favorite sites. While the icon for most sites is just a “screen shot” of the site homepage, some sites contain a line of code that creates a custom icon. To place a website icon on your iPhone follow these steps:
1. Go to the website for which you want to create an icon.
2. Select the “+” symbol at the base of the screen.
3. Select the button “Add to Home Screen”.
4. Amend the title to your requirements, the shorter the better. If the site has a custom icon you will see it at this stage.
5. Select the blue “Add” button in the top right corner and, hey presto, you have a brand new iPhone website icon!

Here are some examples of websites that contain the code which creates a custom icon:
a. Google
b. Wikipedia
b. Outback Solutions
c. BNI Central Valley
d. Bonney Plumbing
e. Bertolucci’s

Try them and see the custom icons for yourself!
